Democratic Donor Reid Hoffman Urges to Remove Money from Politics

Reid Hoffman Advocates for Reducing Money in Politics

Reid Hoffman, a prominent Democratic donor known for contributing to figures like Texas Senate candidate James Talarico and former President Joe Biden, has expressed his thoughts on the influence of money in politics. He recently stated, “We should get money out of politics” in a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. He emphasized that while others pour significant funds into maintaining power for what he describes as “authoritarian clowns,” those who hold American values shouldn’t back down.

According to Federal Election Commission filings, Hoffman, who co-founded LinkedIn, has reportedly donated $10 million to the Lone Star Rising PAC, a super PAC that supports Talarico’s Senate campaign. This figure came from a Bloomberg report detailing his substantial financial involvement in political campaigns.

A July report from Breitbart highlighted how this PAC has invested millions to support Talarico, targeting his Republican opponent, Attorney General Ken Paxton. Hoffman’s June donation marked the largest single contribution received by the super PAC during the specified period. Prior to this, he had already contributed around $1.5 million to various groups aiding Talarico’s efforts.

Hoffman has previously acknowledged visiting Jeffrey Epstein’s private island, which adds another layer to his profile. He also made a $250,000 contribution to Democrat gubernatorial candidate Rob Sand in Iowa.

In January, documents from the Department of Justice revealed that Hoffman had discussions regarding visits to Epstein’s well-known locations, including his New Mexico ranch and New York apartment.

Further context was given by Breitbart in August 2025, where it was noted in a book by Alex Marlow that a key argument suggests that “lawfare” aims to effectively purchase democracy. It’s a complex landscape when it comes to political funding, obscured by “dark money” nonprofits, though it’s evident that Hoffman, who has been vocally anti-Trump, has financially supported E. Jean Carroll’s defamation lawsuit against Trump.

The article mentioned that Hoffman, who has amassed wealth through various tech ventures, seems committed to financing left-leaning political activities. He has voiced a willingness to use his resources to defeat Trump at any cost, contributing broadly through various channels.

In a separate report from Breitbart in October 2022, it was revealed that Preston Moore, an attorney, was approached by the Good Information Foundation with an offer to promote anti-Trump sentiments for financial compensation, which he declined. He perceived the foundation’s intent as an effort to manipulate voter behavior in the midterms.

While the leadership of the Good Information Foundation remains ambiguous, it is backed by Hoffman and fellow billionaire donor George Soros, showcasing the interconnected web of funding and political influence.
