Democratic Leaders in Blue States Starting Plans to Hinder ICE and Federal Laws

Several states with Democratic leadership are committing to counter federal law enforcement by offering a way for citizens to monitor federal employees and remain informed.

In New Jersey, for instance, Democratic Governor Mikie Sherrill has announced the establishment of a “portal” for residents to track and report on the activities of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

“We are launching this portal so that people can upload any cell phone videos they take and alert others. If you notice an ICE agent on the streets, grab your phone,” Sherrill remarked in a recent interview.

In a similar show of defiance, Seattle’s Mayor Katie Wilson, who identifies as a “democratic socialist,” is advocating for transparency and is pushing her police department to establish connections with leftist informant networks to undermine federal law enforcement efforts. Wilson has expressed the intention for her police to share information about federal activities with activist groups.

Former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is also leading an initiative to expose the names and locations of ICE agents as part of a larger push by immigration activists to disrupt federal enforcement.

In Illinois, Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias issued a warning to ICE and other federal law enforcement entities against tampering with license plates on their official vehicles, citing violations of state vehicle regulations.

Giannoulias, who previously managed a family bank that was foreclosed upon in 2010, released a video on social media declaring he has “zero tolerance” for such “illegal activity.” He encouraged residents to report any violations via a designated hotline.

“In Illinois, altering a license plate to evade detection is completely prohibited,” he emphasized. “Everyone is subject to the law, including federal workers,” he added emphatically.

The state’s progressive governor has initiated a commission aimed at countering ICE and has publicly announced plans to impede legitimate federal law enforcement actions.

Florida’s Republican Governor Ron DeSantis criticized his fellow state leaders, highlighting what he sees as hypocrisy on the left.

“When President Biden chose not to enforce immigration laws, we were told states couldn’t enforce those laws because it was a federal responsibility,” DeSantis pointed out in a post on X. “Now, as President Trump aims to enforce those same federal laws, many of these individuals argue it’s acceptable for states to obstruct these federal actions,” he continued.
