Democratic Senate Candidate Exits Race Before Jasmine Crockett's Announcement on Her Candidacy

Colin Allred, who previously served as a Democratic representative, has officially stepped back from his campaign for the Senate in Texas. This decision coincides with the day Rep. Jasmine Crockett is likely to declare her intentions for that same Senate seat.

Instead, Allred has chosen to pursue a position in the newly established 33rd Congressional District of Texas.

In his statement, he expressed concerns about the potential fallout of the Senate Democratic primary, suggesting that it could weaken the party’s unity against Donald Trump and other Republican figures like Paxton, Cornyn, and Hunt, whom he sees as threats to communities and the Constitution. He feels his community service isn’t finished just yet.

Allred pointed out that the 33rd District has faced racial gerrymandering, which he attributes to President Trump, but he also shared his personal connection to the area, recalling his experiences in public school and witnessing his mother struggle to afford groceries.

He urged constituents to support his return to Congress, emphasizing the importance of providing the next generation in the 33rd District with opportunities similar to those he had.

Interestingly, this announcement aligns with the anticipated declaration from Jasmine Crockett, known for her strong anti-Trump sentiment. Last week, she remarked that Trump is “more corrupt and more criminal than any president we’ve ever had,” hinting that her chances for the Senate seat against John Cornyn are more favorable than unfavorable.

“The data says I can win,” she told MS NOW, stressing that statistical favor isn’t everything. She mentioned the logistical challenges, considering Texas’s large population and the substantial cost of the campaign.

As someone recognized as a leading candidate among “black and brown” Democrats heading into the upcoming elections in New Jersey and Virginia, she acknowledged feeling fearful about the situation. Crockett ended with the strong belief that Trump’s supporters operate in a “cult,” while polls indicate a viable path for her to win a Senate seat in Texas.
