Democrats are really putting in the effort to win over the black vote, and James Talarico, a Senate candidate, isn’t any different.
In Texas, particularly among Democrats, there’s a lot of disappointment following Jasmine Crockett’s loss. They really wanted her to win, as she represented them, being black, as BlazeTV host Sara Gonzales points out.
Gonzales goes on to suggest that Talarico’s strategy for attracting black Democratic voters seems to imply he accepts, well, a bit of violence, as long as the perpetrator is black. She backs this up by sharing a clip from Talarico’s appearance on “The Breakfast Club.” Talarico was asked about his thoughts following the incident involving Karmelo Anthony in Texas.
“Honestly, I’ve been engaged in justice reform work at the state level, and the system currently fails to provide equal justice for all Americans,” he replied. “It’s unfortunate that many black Texans continue to be deprived of the justice they rightly deserve.”
He also mentioned that the absence of black jurors in a particular case is quite concerning, indicating that such scenarios highlight systemic issues in the justice system.
There’s also Adam Johnson, recognized from the January 6th incident, who commented on Talarico’s approach. He reflected on his own experience of being incarcerated for “misdemeanor trespassing.”
“If it’s truly about race, as he seems to suggest, that’s a curious claim. Many of us went to jail, and we were certainly white while we were there,” he told Gonzales.
However, Talarico isn’t the only one trying to win over black voters. Abdul El-Sayed seems to be attempting a different tactic. Gonzales mentions that initially, she thought of him as merely Muslim but discovered he emphasizes his African heritage too.
“Yes, I’m Arab, but I’m also African. My family came to this country from Egypt, which I proudly acknowledge,” he shared in a recent press conference.
Gonzales humorously interprets this as El-Sayed trying to align himself with voters, as if he’s saying, “Hey, I’m just like you.”
