Los Angeles, California
Last Saturday, the blue and pink flags along Hollywood Boulevard might have looked like a bisexual pride flag to some, but a closer look revealed a different story about the gathering happening there.
Christians assembled outside the TCL Chinese Theatre to express their beliefs just before Pride Month began, offering an alternative perspective in a popular tourist area. Ross Johnston, the organizer, shared an email detailing how several Democrat-led cities were canceling event permissions as they needed different kinds of approval.
“It’s a concert/performance that needs boss permission. Just because it’s religious doesn’t automatically grant First Amendment rights,” the email stated.
He added that the police department and commission would not permit the event under the First Amendment permissions.
The email emphasized that most event permits in Los Angeles require special approval.
Despite this setback, Johnston encouraged people to attend. Law enforcement was present to ensure safety as worshippers gathered, and necessary equipment was in place.
“We’re Christians, but we’re not just for Christians. We’re standing for Americans,” Johnston said after the event. He mentioned that he had no issue with Democrats allowing the Pride Parade to proceed in the same location this month.
“Do what you did here today,” he advised others facing similar difficulties. “If you exercise the First Amendment legally and peacefully, no one can stop you.”

The Los Angeles service followed an event in Seattle, where Christians faced aggression from radical Antifa and LGBTQ+ activists. Seattle police arrested multiple individuals during that event. Mayor Bruce Harrell placed the blame on Christians for the unrest in a part of the city known for its LGBTQ+ community, though Mayday USA organizers asserted the city directed them to that location instead of their preferred site.
Rev. Russell Johnson from Seattle said his community is calling for Harrell’s resignation amid ongoing investigations by the Justice Department and FBI for religious discrimination.
Unlike the tumult in Seattle, the event in LA was peaceful, with only a few individuals lingering at the edges.
