Democrats Rally Behind The Economy As Election Approaches

Democrats are increasingly optimistic about the U.S. economy, despite signs of slowing growth and accelerating inflation.

A month ago, 32% of Democrats said they thought the economy was improving. economist Thirty-five percent said the economy was about the same, while 28% said it was getting worse.

The latest polls show a big partisan shift: In a June 2-4 poll, 40 percent of Democrats said the economy is getting better, 36 percent said it’s the same, and 19 percent said it’s getting worse.

The change in economic perception runs counter to economic data that generally shows economic growth is slowing and fewer workers are adding to the payroll.

The 8-point increase among Democrats is not mirrored among other voters. A month ago, 10% of independents said the economy was improving; that number remains unchanged in the latest poll. Among Republicans, the percentage who say the economy is improving has fallen from 5% to 2%.

As a result, the percentage of people who said the economy was improving rose slightly from 16 percent in a poll conducted at the end of April to 18 percent in the latest poll.
