Democrats remove unstable candidate due to old comments advocating for political violence — and she gives a strange explanation

Democrat Candidate Draws Backlash for Violent Comments

A Democratic candidate in North Carolina is causing concern within her party after she seemed to support old remarks that suggested political violence. This unexpected turn of events has compelled the party to reconsider its backing of her campaign.

The campaign website of Shelly Headen presents her as a “mom, a neighbor, and an advocate.” Yet, her behavior on social media tells a different story; in fact, she proposed military action against her neighbors in various posts.

In light of the outcry surrounding her statements, Headen is now running for North Carolina’s House District 62 without the support of her own party. Among her controversial posts, she claimed, “I think our only hope is an attack on US soil… preferably Alabama, Louisiana… where the stupid people live,” as noted by the Carolina Journal.

Another incendiary comment suggested that the “MAGA cult may be more destructive and evil than the Nazis,” and included a stark comparison of former President Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler.

In response to the backlash regarding her inflammatory remarks, Headen controversially likened herself to Jesus Christ, asserting, “I’ve sacrificed myself just like Jesus sacrificed himself on the cross, and Martin Luther King and Abraham Lincoln and all the people that put themselves out there to sacrifice for our country.”

She further stated, “If a few angry moments on social media are the end, then so be it. MAGA will keep winning if we continue with not standing up for what’s right.”

However, the North Carolina House Democratic Caucus seemed to disagree with Headen’s self-comparison, swiftly withdrawing its support. Sam Lozier, the caucus’s communications director, labeled her posts “unacceptable” and alleged that they do not align with the values expected from their candidates.

“The North Carolina House Democratic Caucus condemns these comments without qualification and will not support Shelly Headen’s candidacy,” Lozier stated.

Republican state House Speaker Destin Hall also condemned her remarks, describing them as “absolutely disgusting.”

Currently, Headen is vying for the seat against incumbent Republican state Rep. John M. Bust.
