The Arizona Democratic Party has closed its field office in Tempe, Arizona, following three shootings. In recent weeks, the office has served as a hub for Congressional campaigns in the Sunshine State and Vice President Harris' presidential operations.
The most recent incident, on Oct. 6, involved shots being fired at the Democratic Party campaign office around 12:30 a.m., according to the Tempe Police Department, and no one was inside the building. Officers are currently searching for a silver Toyota Highlander with unknown plates that was seen on the property.
said Lauren Kuby, a state senate candidate for Legislative District 8. USA Today Candidates and staff secretly moved operations to an undisclosed location to ensure the safety of the team. The incident occurred just days before First Lady Jill Biden and former President Barack Obama were scheduled to campaign in battleground states.
Prior to the October shooting, reports indicated damage to the building was caused by BB bullets or additional gunfire on September 16 and 23. Officers are currently investigating the destruction and are offering a $1,000 reward to any witnesses who can provide further information.
The violence came at the end of a tumultuous election cycle in which former President Trump faced two assassination attempts.
The Hill has reached out to the Arizona Democratic Party for further comment.
