Discussion on Biden’s Age and Accountability

During Friday’s “CNN Newsnight,” host Abby Phillip addressed an audio clip featuring an interview with then-President Joe Biden and Robert Hur. Hur had raised concerns about Biden’s mental acuity but emphasized that he was clear in his assessments. Phillip noted that when such issues arise, Biden should take responsibility for criticizing the media regarding discussions of his age.

She pointed out that Hur’s report had been released in February 2024, suggesting that while the Democrats acknowledged the issue, it felt somewhat like Robert Hur was offering Biden a lifeline. This situation presented an opportunity for Democrats to reconsider their approach, perhaps allowing for other potential candidates to gain more visibility.

CNN political commentator Maria Cardona chimed in, asserting that accountability should extend to both Joe and Jill Biden. Phillip agreed, adding that it is also the responsibility of Democrats to address those who have voiced concerns about Biden, especially concerning media criticisms related to his age.
