Democrat X Account’s Misstep on Grocery Prices Draws Mockery
A tweet from the official Democrat X account faced backlash on Thursday. It recklessly highlighted soaring grocery prices during former President Joe Biden’s tenure.
This post aimed to illustrate the grocery price hikes attributed to “Trump’s America,” using data from October 2019 to 2025. According to the graph, grocery prices are projected to hit record levels in 2025, exceeding July 2024 figures in areas like dairy, produce, and meat.
However, numerous users on X pointed out that the price increases actually began in 2021, while Biden was still in office. The prices were expected to stabilize only by the end of 2024, coinciding with a potential re-election of Donald Trump.
Criticism from Various Quarters
Political commentator Chad Felix Green remarked, “You present a steady price graph, and then—surprise, surprise—it spikes right when you take office before continuing to rise until Trump comes back.”
GOP strategist Greg Price cheekily asked, “Who was in charge in 2021?”
Kyle Smith of the Wall Street Journal quipped, “Wow, 2021-2024 was pretty rough.”
Author Carol Ross noted, “This isn’t quite the flex they believe it is.”
White House Deputy Press Secretary Abigail Jackson expressed disbelief, saying, “Can they really be this clueless?”
Meanwhile, veteran secretary Doug Collins suggested, “I don’t think Democrats grasp how to interpret graphs.”
Crockett’s Standpoint on Economic Issues
Crockett, identified as a key figure, argued that due to Trump’s immigration policy, Americans are struggling to afford both homes and groceries.
Shortly after the backlash, the Democrat account removed the tweet. Fox News Digital attempted to obtain comments from the DNC.
Since the start of Trump’s second term, Congressional Democrats have been vocal about blaming Republicans for rising grocery prices.
Earlier this month, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) launched an initiative aimed at exposing how much Americans are paying for everyday goods under Republican control.
Steep Grocery Price Increases Under Biden
Grocery prices have surged over 21% during Biden’s administration, with price hikes slowing after a 40-year inflation peak in 2022. However, inflation did see a slight uptick last month.
