Incident in Humble, Texas
A man was arrested on July 9 by Deputy Constable in Harris County District 4 for allegedly trying to disrupt work by immigration and customs enforcement agents near Houston.
Constable Mark Herman mentioned that his office received a call from ICE agents who required help after encountering a hostile situation near Humble, located northeast of Houston. Deputies arrived on the scene and detained 22-year-old Sergio Olivares, a U.S. citizen.
According to Herman, as the workplace enforcement agents were about to leave a business, Olivares approached their vehicle, confronted the agent, and caused damage. He described himself as the son of a business owner and began to pursue an agent recklessly, endangering the agents and other motorists.
Olivares was charged with criminal mischief and reckless driving, both misdemeanors. Herman expressed concern, saying that the local Democratic District Attorney’s Office had been reluctant to pursue more serious charges. He indicated plans to reach out to federal authorities, including the FBI, to explore additional charges for interfering with federal agents.
In court records accessed, it was noted that he had previously faced charges in November 2024 for obstructing a civil servant, which he denied. At that time, he also had charges related to driving violations. Those misdemeanor charges were dismissed in exchange for pleas to more serious offenses.
In March 2025, Olivares was charged with felony possession related to the illegal transport of a small amount of cocaine and firearms. He entered a pre-trial diversion agreement that sought to dismiss all pending misdemeanor charges if he stayed out of trouble for one year. Given this week’s arrest, it appears he may have violated that agreement.
Herman stated that his department is fully cooperating with ICE agents working in the northern part of Harris County, ensuring they are supported in their operations. He emphasized the intention to assist federal authorities in pursuing further charges related to the attack on their agents.
