DeSantis polls in single digits behind Haley, Trump ahead of New Hampshire primary

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) has an approval rating of just 6% ahead of the state's crucial Tuesday primary, according to a new poll of likely New Hampshire Republican primary voters. It has become clear that she is lagging behind former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley and former President Trump.

CNN/University of New Hampshire poll Ms. Haley has an approval rating of 39%, while Ms. Trump once again leads her opponent by double digits with an approval rating of 50%. Trump's lead has widened in New Hampshire, compared to a CNN poll in January that showed him at 39% and Haley at 32%.

Unlike other primaries, New Hampshire's likely Republican primary voters include non-Republican voters. Among Republicans in the Granite State, 63% support Trump, 25% support Haley and 8% support DeSantis.

Overwhelmingly, Haley won the support of self-described “liberals/progressives/socialists,” with 91 percent supporting her, as did 71 percent of self-described “moderates.”

Haley also won with 73% of the vote among Republican primary voters who identified as “Independent/Democrats,” while Trump received 20% of the vote.

Looking at party registration status, 58% of those who are “registered, undeclared, or unregistered” support Haley, 30% support Trump, and 4% support DeSantis. Among registered Republicans, 67% support Trump, 23% support Haley and 4% support DeSantis.

The New Hampshire primary is scheduled to be held this Tuesday, making it the second major presidential nominating contest after Iowa, which Trump lost and won.

Recent polls have shown Ms. Haley surpassing Mr. DeSantis and increasing her approval rating to double digits. Mr. DeSantis was once seen as Mr. Trump's most formidable candidate, but his support among Republican primary voters has declined in recent weeks. Nationally, Trump has a 50 percentage point lead, according to the latest national polling average from Decision Desk Headquarters.

The CNN/UNH poll was conducted online from January 16th to January 19th, and 2,348 people responded, including 1,242 likely 2024 Republican primary voters. The CNN poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.8 percentage points among likely New Hampshire Republican primary voters.
