DeSantis puts boots to media for double standard on disaster coverage, attacking Trump rather than Newsom

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) on Thursday attacked President-elect Donald Trump, accusing her and the broader media of wanting to allow reprehensible Democratic leaders to cover the Golden State's devastating fires. He lashed out at the reporter for his obvious desire.

A day after holding a private meeting with Republican senators in Washington, D.C., President Trump hosted a dinner at Mar-a-Lago for 22 of the nation's 27 Republican governors. discussed Issues include concerns about manufacturing, the potential purchase of Greenland, the funeral of the late President Jimmy Carter, the California fires, and more. After dinner, DeSantis and several colleagues answered questions from reporters.

1 reporter asked Whether it was “appropriate” for the president or president-elect to criticize Newsom at this time.

The reporter was clearly uncomfortable with Trump's commentary on Truth Social this week. In a post on Wednesday, the president-elect said, “Gavin Newscam and his crew in Los Angeles have exactly zero percent containment of the fire. It's burning at even higher levels than last night. This is not the government's fault. I can't wait.” said. Until January 20th! ”

In a subsequent post, Trump emphasized Newsom's clear responsibility, writing:

Gov. Gavin Newcomb said millions of gallons of water from excess rain and snowmelt from the north will flow into many areas of California each day, including areas where the fires are currently burning. refused to sign the Water Restoration Declaration submitted before him. It's essentially an apocalyptic method. He wanted to protect an essentially worthless fish called smelt by giving them less water (it didn't work!), but he didn't care about the people of California. Now the ultimate price is being paid.

DeSantis does not support the “holier than thou setting,” telling reporters, “Is it appropriate for people in your industry to try to create division and create a narrative every time something like this happens? ” he answered.

Liberal media previously rushed to politicize Hurricane Milton in October, when Mr. DeSantis was busy with relief efforts with the White House, federal agencies and his own people, and received a response from Kamala Harris. I begged him to pick up the phone.

“You have to be accountable to other people as well, but I've never seen that.”

“Newsom is a D, so I’m not really interested in him right now,” DeSantis continued. “If Newsom were a Republican, you guys would go — nail him to the wall for what he's doing over there. And you know we've dealt with that. Florida. So every time something happens, we just assume, it's going to be politicized by the media, so those of you who are judging Donald Trump, excuse me, these things. I think the track record of politicizing it is very bad.”

Florida's governor says the media has a double standard when covering natural disasters, shifting blame when Democratic leaders are involved and holding them accountable when Republicans are in power. He emphasized that he was blaming her.

“When I was elected governor, I was meeting with other Republican governors, and they said, 'If there's a natural disaster, be aware that the media will come after you. 'We're going to do it,''' DeSantis said. “It's not the same. That Los Angeles mayor? I can only imagine what would have happened if it had been a Republican mayor.” [the media] You will.”

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass (D) attends U.S. President John Dramani Mahama's inauguration as her city burns and the water supply proves insufficient to fight the flames. As part of a delegation, he was visiting a tourist destination in Ghana, Africa.

Bass had previously called on Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas to resign after a severe winter storm hit his home state and forced him to take his family to Cancun. “Ted Cruz is on the run from Texas,” he wrote. The deadly crisis is part of a larger pattern of Republicans abandoning people in crisis, and we need to build a movement to get them all out. ”

DeSantis added, “Are you going to go on some sort of voyage to Africa or wherever she was, knowing that there's a high risk of fire? Prepare locally and prepare?” I should have kept it, but I don't see it,” he added. I'd like to see some balance in how this is done, because there's a lot of heat being directed at that. You can criticize the president-elect, but you can also criticize the president-elect, but other people I think we need to hold them accountable as well. I've never seen that before. ”

ABC News noticed DeSantis also suggested that despite divisive media coverage, President Trump intends to work with all states, red or blue.

“I worked well with Mr. Biden during natural disasters, and I worked well with Mr. Donald Trump,” the governor said. “So as a state that knows we're facing these things, I feel very confident that the Trump administration is going to be very strong and stand by our people regardless of party.” have.”

DeSantis shown On Wednesday, Florida announced it would provide assistance to California, saying, “When disaster strikes, we must come together to help our fellow Americans in any way possible. “We provided assistance to help the people of the state respond to these fires.” And we are working to rebuild devastated communities. ”
