Scheduled to come into effect from July 1stcent.
SB1084 Prohibits and imposes fines on the production, distribution, and sale of farmed meat within the state.
- It would also prohibit local governments from enacting their own regulations and pre-empt state regulations on electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.
- It also provides guidelines for the removal, collection, and retailing of “saw palmetto berries.”
Finally, as Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson emphasized Wednesday, the state’s trespass charges against suspects on commercial farmland will be strengthened by the new law.
At a press conference, DeSantis (R-Florida) explained how groups like the World Economic Forum (WEF) promote their own ideological positions in the agricultural sector.
“People who lecture us about things like global warming, who tell us we shouldn’t drive cars with internal combustion engines, who say we can’t farm, all the while flying to Davos on private jets,” DeSantis said. he said.
A real case of “rules for you, not rules for me”.
“So this is really a vision that imposes limits on the freedoms of ordinary people, while these elites are effectively detoxifying and giving orders and doing whatever they want to do with their lives. We’re doing everything,” DeSantis added.
In Florida, the governor declared World Economic Forum policies “dead on arrival.”
But he also made it clear that the organization’s focus on promoting lab-grown meat is not about competitiveness in the marketplace.
“That’s because they know that if it’s put out to compete with regular beef, they’re going to lose,” DeSantis says. “So I’m aware of some of these threats that we’re seeing from some elites around the world in places like Davos,” he added. “I understand that their goals are in agriculture,” DeSantis added. “We support agriculture, we support ranchers, we support farmers. We understand that it’s important to the foundation of our nation, it’s important to our culture, it’s important to our heritage. Because there is.”
Dale Carleton, president-elect of the Florida Cattlemen’s Association, discussed how the bill specifically benefits the state’s ranchers and cattlemen.
“Thank you for passing strong legislation that protects our industry and the people of our great state,” Carleton said.
The bill’s lead sponsor, Sen. Jay Collins (R-Tampa), a former farmer, expressed how important this bill is. He explained how his family had previously lost land due to Democratic policies in the state.
“This is something I don’t want to happen. I cannot stand by and watch what is happening to others in our great state of Florida,” Collins said. “It’s amazing that we have the leadership of Governor DeSantis, Secretary Simpson and so many others who are fighting tooth and nail for our agriculture,” he added.
