DHS Addresses Threats Against ICE Agents
The Department of Homeland Security has issued a response following recent threats directed at Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. These threats surfaced on social media, particularly a video shared across platforms, showcasing a group of young men with a message implying a bounty on ICE agents.
The video includes a line stating, “I’m on my way. There are rumors that a street cartel is offering a $50,000 bounty on all of you.” The account responsible for the video, “Floridanamedjit,” has drawn attention with its significant following, boasting 26,000 subscribers on YouTube and 119,000 on Instagram.
In reaction to this, DHS communicated through their official account on X, stating, “FAFO. If you threaten or mess with our law enforcement officers, we will hunt you down and you will find us real quick. See you soon, coward.”
When contacted for further clarification, the influencer behind the video dismissed the seriousness of the content, remarking, “This was a skit and a joke. Why are people taking this seriously?” He elaborated, saying, “It’s literally a skit video. It’s not real! Just a caption. It’s not meant to be taken seriously.”
Prior DHS reports have indicated that certain criminal cartels have indeed placed bounties on federal officials, with rewards reaching $50,000 for murders of high-ranking officials. Other crimes, such as kidnappings or attempts on agents’ lives, could yield payments of $5,000 to $10,000, while merely gathering information about agents could earn someone $2,000.
Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem commented on the situation, asserting, “These criminal networks are not only resisting the rule of law, but they are also committing organized acts of terror against the brave men and women who protect our borders and communities.”
The backdrop for these events has been the heightened border security measures and mass deportations initiated by the administration, which have led to protests across the country and instances of violence. A particularly tragic incident occurred in September when three detainees were fatally shot at an ICE facility in Texas, involving a suspect later identified as Bratton Dean Wilkinson, who subsequently took his own life.
