DHS Issues Warning to Migrant Caravan Moving North

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has raised an alert concerning a significant migrant caravan that has recently crossed into Mexico and is now heading north towards the U.S.-Mexico border. This caravan, which includes hundreds of people as of Monday, mainly consists of individuals from Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, Ecuador, and Haiti.

In a statement to Fox News, the DHS noted, “USBP is closely engaged with its international partners to monitor their movement and any additional developments.” They also mentioned that, under President Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Mullin’s leadership, the border has remained closed and secure for the last 16 months.

The caravan set off from San Pedro Sula, Honduras on September 20. Interestingly, DHS also emphasized that the era of “catch and release” has ended, asserting that “Biden’s disastrous open border policy has been SEALED SHUT.”

The agency made it clear that anyone attempting to enter the U.S. illegally will face apprehension, prosecution, and deportation. This warning comes during a politically charged midterm election season, where the Trump administration’s stringent stance on illegal immigration has been a significant topic across the political spectrum.

Some migrants express their intentions to seek better economic opportunities in the U.S. José Zelaya, a Honduran individual traveling with seven relatives, stated to a news agency, “I want to reach the United States.” He mentioned that the caravan lacks organized leadership and that the primary motivators for their journey are “hunger and need.”

As this situation unfolds, it raises questions about both the migrants’ journeys and the broader implications for U.S. immigration policy. The DHS will continue to monitor the caravan’s progress closely as they deal with the ongoing challenges along the southern border.
