DHS Responds to Media Criticism After Claims of Illegal Immigrants Hitting Border Patrol Vehicle

DHS Condemns Violence in Chicago Incident Involving Undocumented Immigrants

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) spoke out on Wednesday against what it called a “disgusting slur,” regarding an incident where two undocumented immigrants collided with a Border Patrol vehicle during a tense situation on Chicago’s Southeast Side on Tuesday.

Federal authorities reported that agents utilized a PIT maneuver around noon to intercept the suspects near East 105th Street and South Street North. This led to the arrest of two Venezuelans amidst a hostile crowd, where projectiles were thrown, prompting the use of tear gas. Thirteen officers from the Chicago police were involved in the arrests, as noted by Fox 32 Chicago.

The DHS’s statement on X referred to “false claims” and labeled them as significant misrepresentations propagated by the media and some law firms. They mentioned that a U.S. citizen teenager had been taken to the FBI’s Chicago field office for allegedly throwing an egg that struck a Customs and Border Protection officer. This teenager reportedly admitted to the act, consulted with a lawyer, and was then released without facing any charges.

The DHS confirmed that this incident took place during an immigration enforcement action, specifying the individuals involved as Luis Gerardo Pirera-Ramirez and Yonder Enrique Tenefe-Perez.

Images from the scene depicted a damaged SUV being towed while officials managed the escalating crowd. The police documented the confrontation, which occurred as federal agents prepared to depart.

A DHS representative described the collision as part of a wider pattern of aggression against federal employees, indicating that this event is emblematic of a troubling trend where undocumented immigrants aggressively resist arrest and where agitators confront law enforcement.

A lawyer representing a 15-year-old American citizen detained during the protest claimed that agents had mishandled the boy and caused him to “disappear” for several hours. In response, the DHS noted that the boy had admitted to throwing eggs and was released after meeting with his attorney.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker criticized the use of tear gas by federal agents in the area, expressing his concerns on X. Chicago police reported that 13 officers were affected by the gas during the incident.

Authorities have stated that the situation is still under investigation.
