California law requires employers in the state to ensure that their employees are paid correctly and “intentionally and intentionally” through 12 specific labor law provisions, including the accurate calculation of hours worked. It is mandatory to submit an enumerated wage statement.

According to the lawsuit filed by Charlie Torres, Disney did no such thing. Charlie Torres began working at the Disneyland Hotel in February 2022 as an assistant maintenance engineer.

Torres still works at the 970-room four-star hotel and will represent a group of more than 115 current and former employees of the hotel if it becomes the subject of a class action lawsuit. That’s what I’m aiming for.

The lawsuit seeks at least $1 million in back pay and loss of benefits for four years prior to the filing date, as well as a jury trial to resolve the claims.

Torres’ attorney at the West Coast Trial Lawyers Association said in a statement to the Post: Torres and many others have been told to pay for tools used to benefit Disney, which ignores the law and refuses to pay its workers the wages they are owed. Disney is a huge company. they know the law. But just like their character Uncle Scrooge, they choose to be cheap. ”

Torres’ lawsuit is not the first time Disney has been accused of underpaying its employees.

In December, a judge ruled that a lawsuit that began in 2019 accusing Disney of “rampant wage discrimination” between its male and female employees included a diverse group of women employed by Disney over a three-month period beginning in April 2015. A major hurdle was cleared by certifying him as a vice president or below. The trial, scheduled to begin in October 2024, will target people working in the company’s film production division, record label, theme parks and other divisions.

This is believed to be one of the largest groups ever to sue under the Equal Pay Act. The Hollywood Reporter first reported.

The class certification was later challenged by the Mouse House, which argued that the company had too many employees whose jobs were not comparable to each other to qualify for class action status.
