Disney is set to eliminate up to 200 positions within its Experiences division, primarily affecting the Imagineering campus located in Glendale. This decision comes as the company reassesses its investment strategies and overall priorities.
The layoffs impact areas related to Disney’s theme parks, resorts, and cruise lines. As noted by multiple sources, including Deadline and the Los Angeles Times, these cuts are part of a broader evaluation of investments, priorities, and project schedules.
Employees who will be affected are anticipated to receive notification regarding their jobs by the end of Wednesday. Importantly, these reductions are confined to the Experiences division, rather than being company-wide.
Interestingly, despite these job cuts, Disney’s main attractions are still drawing millions of guests, although attendance figures show varied results across its major parks.
For instance, Disneyland Park in Anaheim experienced a visitor count of 17.4 million, which is a slight increase of 0.4%, making it the second most-visited theme park globally, according to the Themed Entertainment Association. Similarly, Disney California Adventure saw a similar increase, attracting 10.1 million visitors.
Meanwhile, Florida’s Magic Kingdom remains the top destination, with 17.8 million visitors, although it did see a slight decline of 0.2%. These attendance statistics are crucial for Disney’s financial health, prompting analysts to carefully track how the Experiences division contributes to the company’s performance.
Even with a steady flow of guests at its top attractions, Disney is looking into how it manages investments and project timelines. However, no specific details about which projects are impacted by this review or the reasons for the job eliminations have been disclosed.
