Disneyland Responds to Guest Behavior with New Restrictions

It seems like Disneyland is putting its foot down about something rather unexpected: the trend of fancy reusable water bottles. Following a rise in ride closures attributed to guest behavior, the park has decided to bar these items from some of its top attractions.

During a recent meeting, park officials pointed out that an uptick in temporary ride shutdowns—now hitting 13%—could be linked to misplaced items, like those adult sippy cups loved by many Gen Z visitors. It’s kind of wild, right?

These closures not only disrupt the fun but can also lead to headaches for operations—as you might guess. And there’s more. In some instances, even smartphones are being restricted. So, if you were planning to live stream on Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Train Ride, you might want to think again.

Cast members are now instructed not to start the ride if they catch sight of someone with a phone in hand or on their lap. This ride is actually quite technologically advanced, and a dropped device can trigger a sensor issue, leading to extended delays for everyone waiting. Talk about a bummer.

The situation has impacted more than just rides. Over at Disney California Adventure, the once-peaking trend of emotional support water bottles seems to have hit a brick wall. In attempts to combat potential hazards, Disney has even added special shelves at loading stations for guests to safely store their bottles.

Safety experts note that cups, especially the large ones, can turn into dangerous projectiles during intense rides like the Incredicoaster, which reaches speeds of 55 mph. Their recommendation? Leave those bottles behind. One Reddit user even recalled a time when they nearly got hurt by someone’s sunglasses while in line, and remarked that a hefty Hydro Flask could have done much worse damage.

So, if you’re planning a trip to Disneyland anytime soon, you might want to leave the oversized drink containers behind. After all, the park doesn’t want anything but fun—and you—flying through the air on those rides.
