Unique Airbnb Experience in the UK
An unusual Airbnb experience in the UK offers guests the chance to spend the night in a barn with miniature horses, starting at around $230 per night, according to reports.
Brittany Sparham, who is 28, began renting out her barn near Surgerton, Notts, as staycations grew in popularity during the pandemic. The barn shares a wall with stables, prompting the owners to create a door that allows guests to meet the neighboring horse, Basil.
This rustic setting is now a favorite among animal lovers, especially those who want to spend time with a 12-year-old miniature Shetland pony. The accommodation is located on the grounds of a 17th-century mansion and requires a minimum two-night stay, with prices starting at approximately £360, or about $470.
“Initially, we only thought about renting out a separate building because so many people were looking for staycations due to the pandemic,” Sparham shared. “But since Basil’s stables are really close, we figured we might as well make it unique by opening a doorway so guests can meet him.”
Once the visitors began sharing their experiences on social media, bookings surged, and Sparham noted that the barn is sometimes reserved up to a year in advance. “It’s great for Basil too, as he always has company and enjoys plenty of attention,” she added.
Sparham describes Basil as a calm character who enjoys playing with his friends in the field during the day and eagerly anticipates evening time at the stable.
Visitors can’t feed Basil, but they’re encouraged to brush him or help clean the stables. The barn itself comes equipped with a kitchen, bathroom, a double bed, and bunk beds, accommodating up to four guests.
While staying there, guests can take advantage of amenities like an outdoor fireplace with a grill, a tiki hut, and the opportunity to see cows, sheep, and horses across a bridge.
However, since guests will be near horses, there might be some noise and smells. Sparham mentioned some have mixed feelings, wondering about cleanliness or noise, yet everyone who stays seems to enjoy it. “It’s been overwhelmingly positive,” she said.
