Man Arrested After Stabbing Incident in Belfast

Police in Northern Ireland have taken a man into custody following what appears to be an attempted beheading on a Belfast street on Monday night.

Around 10:30 PM local time, a man was seriously injured and hospitalized after a stabbing in the Kinnaird Avenue area. Reports suggest that the assailant was apprehended at the scene by several individuals.

Social media footage allegedly captures a man repeatedly stabbing another in the neck and head, seemingly with the intent to decapitate. As of now, the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) hasn’t disclosed any details about the suspect’s identity or motives.

Further reports indicate that authorities recovered a Stanley-style knife from the scene of the incident.

Belfast City Councilor Jordan Dolan expressed his shock and concern over the incident in a social media post. He noted, “This level of violence is completely unacceptable and has understandably caused significant fear and anxiety among local residents.”

Dolan emphasized the public’s expectation for a comprehensive investigation by the PSNI, stating, “Anyone found responsible for this type of criminal behavior must face the full consequences of the law.” He acknowledged the residents’ apprehensions about their safety and affirmed their right to feel secure in their communities.

He added, “Violence of this nature has no place in north Belfast. I will be working with the PSNI and relevant agencies to ensure residents receive the information and reassurance they deserve. North Belfast must remain a safe community where people can go about their daily lives in peace.”

A spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Police stated, “Police from north Belfast are currently attending to Kinnaird Street following reports of a stabbing shortly after 10:30 PM.” They confirmed that one man has been arrested and is in custody, while the other victim is receiving medical treatment for serious injuries.
