Disturbing that D.C. Media Site Cautioned About ICE Raids

Immigration reporters are raising alarms about upcoming checks by immigration and customs enforcement (ICE) agents in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday and Wednesday.

“We’ve witnessed a lot of excitement,” noted Pablo Manriquez, founder of Migrantinsider.com, who hails from Chile.

Funded by a subscription model, immigration lawyer Charles Cuck and others are providing access to American systems for immigrants.

The leaks have sparked criticism from Tricia McLaughlin, a spokeswoman for the Department of Homeland Security. She described the situation as “disgraceful,” accusing the reporter of endangering law enforcement by sharing information that might aid criminals.

Manriquez elaborated further:

It has been reported that there will be inspections for I-9 employment eligibility documents at various restaurants, aimed at those trying to evade capture. They are also targeting a bilingual public charter school, specifically Mundo Verde in D.C.

It’s important to know your rights, and if you find yourself in custody, reach out to the Amica Center for Immigrant Rights. They’re ready to help. Share this information widely; we’ll also post updates on Migrantinsider.com.

Describing himself as an advocate for immigrants, Manriquez recently wrote an article commemorating the March passing of Democrat Raul Grijalva, praising him as a champion of underrepresented communities.

Yet, his disclosures about ICE’s planned actions raise concerns about his ties with elite insiders, including corporate lawyers assisting vulnerable immigrant workers.

These attorneys offer free legal aid to poorly paid laborers, often brought in to provide cheap services for many professionals, drawing attention away from the issues surrounding white-collar migration.

Among Acacia’s board of directors are members from major companies like Caterpillar, Link Strategic Partners, and Ford Motor Company, along with corporate law experts aiding various enterprises, benefitting from immigration policies affecting lower-income communities.

Significant evidence suggests that government actions bringing in young, industrious immigrants are affecting average wages and living costs for ordinary American citizens. This trend is particularly detrimental for working-class individuals struggling to find affordable housing near urban centers.

For instance, the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland recently noted that low-wage employees in hospitality and leisure sectors, highlighted in Manriquez’s piece, have seen wage increases during periods marked by shifts in immigration policy and economic recovery.

The pandemic has transformed businesses across sectors, but its effects have not been equal. Restrictions aimed at curbing COVID-19 have led to significant wage growth, especially among low-wage workers, primarily in leisure and hospitality.

The Institute for Economic Policy findings indicate that:

Unlike trends in previous decades, low-income workers have experienced notable wage growth in recent years, though many still face severe wage insufficiency and significant disparities across various demographic groups.

A spokesperson for Trump’s administration has highlighted that wage growth and employment opportunities for Indigenous peoples are rising faster in his coalition compared to the current administration’s approaches.
