Underwater Discovery in Chicago River Linked to Cold Case

Authorities recently uncovered nearly 100 submerged vehicles in the Chicago River while investigating the long-missing couple, Edward and Stephania Andrews, from a cold case dating back decades.

The Andrews vanished on May 15, 1970, after leaving a cocktail party at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Chicago. They were reportedly driving their yellow 1969 Oldsmobile 442 home when they disappeared. It’s quite baffling that, even after all these years, the circumstances surrounding their disappearance remain largely unclear.

Efforts to find the couple were renewed in 1994, but unfortunately, not much progress was made, according to reports. Recently, a dive team known as the “Chaos Divers” returned to the Chicago River and successfully located the couple’s car.During their dive, they noticed a staggering 97 vehicles hidden beneath the surface. Most of these cars were clustered together, with clusters of about 12 to 19 vehicles, as noted by Lindsay Buchick, the manager of the dive team. “We tend to focus on single vehicles, as they might indicate an accident or foul play,” Buchick said.

However, despite the find, Andrews’ specific vehicle did not resurface during the search, leaving many questions unanswered.

The dive team utilized sonar for their searches, delving into about 10 cold cases while in the city. They’ve managed to gather significant information on over 20 of these cases.

As the Chaos Divers returned to the river, they aimed to extend their search to the Calumet River, which flows between Chicago’s south side and Gary, Indiana, increasing hopes for more discoveries. Yet, Chicago police are keeping quiet about the car’s connection to any open cases, leaving some ambiguity about the broader implications of this operation.
