DNC Chair Ken Martin criticizes Trump's spending bill as 'nonsense' on MSNBC

The chair of the Democratic National Committee stumbled during a recent appearance on television when he mistakenly referred to President Trump’s significant spending bill as “The Bulls.” Ken Martin, newly elected to his position, was discussing the controversial package on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” when the slip occurred. It was quite clear that some editing had taken place during the broadcast, as he didn’t seem to realize the error he made.

“Let’s not get this wrong. Democrats are here to fight, win, and ensure that better days are ahead for Americans—not this bull the bill Congress is currently dealing with,” he asserted. Just before the bill’s passage, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer was quick to insist on a name change for the “big and beautiful” legislation that some were dreading.

Prior to the Congressional vote on Trump’s $3.3 trillion spending plan, Martin shared his thoughts publicly while House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries worked to delay the vote with an extended speech from the House floor.

The bill eventually passed on Thursday afternoon, shortly after Jeffries had finished his remarks. Martin criticized Trump’s legislation and the Republican lawmakers backing it, labeling their actions as a “betrayal.” He wasn’t shy about stating his belief that this would hurt the Republicans in the future, claiming, “This is one of the biggest betrayals we’ve seen in a while. I will remind voters next year—trust me, this won’t work out for them. It’s like a gift on a silver platter for us.”

Martin continued to express his party’s readiness to oppose the bill and his optimism about winning midterm elections against the GOP and Trump. However, some reporters, like NBC’s Ali Vitali, expressed doubt over his confidence. She pointed out that Trump had once been seen as offering a “gift” to the Democrats in 2016, after which his party came out victorious over Hillary Clinton.
