DNC launches Florida billboard campaign targeting Trump on abortion

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) has been putting up billboards across Florida slamming former President Donald Trump on abortion after the state’s Supreme Court cleared the way to ban abortions after six weeks of pregnancy.

The initiative, first shared with The Hill, will include billboards in the Tampa, Orlando, Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Daytona Beach areas. The sign was posted in both English and Spanish and read, “Thanks to Donald Trump, abortion is banned in Florida. He won’t stop until it’s banned nationwide.”

Democratic National Committee spokeswoman Jackie Bush said in a statement to The Hill: “Millions of women across Florida and millions more across the country are no longer able to make decisions about their bodies. It’s Donald Trump’s fault and he’s ‘proud’ of it.” “As President Trump campaigns with plans to ban abortion nationwide, women in states like Florida are fighting back and voting this November to stop President Trump’s attack on their rights and freedoms. We are ready to make our voices heard wherever we are.”

The billboard campaign comes days after a Florida court upheld the state’s 15-week ban on abortions. The decision also means a separate six-week ban will come into effect from May 1, banning abortions at the point in pregnancy, before most women know they are pregnant. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) signed a six-week stay-at-home order last year, just before announcing his presidential bid.

The ruling also allows a bill to go to voters in November that would protect access to abortion in the state.

Trump, who is considered the Republican presidential nominee, has not considered the court’s ruling. Asked earlier this week about his thoughts on the six-week ban, President Trump said he would issue a statement on abortion next week, but gave no further details.

The former president repeatedly dodged questions about whether he would sign a national abortion ban if re-elected, insisting instead that he would find solutions to unite the country on extremely divisive issues. He said he supported exceptions in cases of rape, incest and the life of the mother.

At the same time, President Trump has frequently said he is responsible for ending Roe v. Wade by appointing three conservative Supreme Court justices.

Abortion has been a major motivator for Democratic voters in the nearly two years since a Supreme Court decision overturned the federal right to abortion, and Biden and his campaign are rallying around it in the run-up to the November general election. I have used it as a source of strength.

Biden campaign announced tuesday ad He specifically focused on President Trump’s comments in the wake of the Florida ruling, in which he took credit for ending Roe v. Wade.
