The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is set to effectively nominate President Joe Biden as the party’s presidential candidate ahead of the party’s convention in August.
Democratic National Committee Chairman Jaime Harrison released a statement on Tuesday explaining that Democrats are taking matters into their own hands and will maintain a “virtual roll” to ensure Biden appears on the ballot in all 50 states. hill.
Ohio LawPolitical parties are required to approve their presidential and vice presidential nominees at least 90 days before an election, but the Democratic convention is scheduled to take place between Aug. 19 and 22, about 75 days before the November election.
“Joe Biden will be on the ballot in Ohio and all 50 states, and Ohio Republicans agree,” Harrison said in a statement. “But when the time came to act, they failed to act every time, and now Democrats will land the plane on their own.”
Harrison went on to explain that Democrats would nominate Biden through a “de facto roll call” to “make sure Republicans can’t chip away at our democracy with incompetence and partisan tactics.”
Ohio lawmakers met in special session Tuesday to discuss Biden appearing on the ballot, days after Gov. Mike DeWine, a Republican, called a special session.
