The Democratic National Committee is preparing to nominate President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee through a virtual process ahead of Ohio’s Aug. 7 deadline and before an in-person convention this summer.
The move comes as Ohio senators convene Tuesday to discuss the possibility of Biden appearing on the general election ballot.

“Joe Biden will be on the ballot in Ohio and all 50 states, and Ohio Republicans agree,” Democratic National Committee Chairman Jaime Harrison said in a statement. “But when the time came to act, they failed to do so every time, and Democrats will land the plane on their own. Through a virtual roll call, we will ensure that Republicans cannot undermine our democracy with incompetence and partisan tactics, and that Ohioans can exercise their right to vote for their presidential candidate.”
