Clayton Kershaw Sparks Controversy During Dodgers’ Pride Night

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw has caught the attention of social media after he was seen wearing a hat with a biblical reference during the team’s Pride Night celebration. The hat featured a rainbow Dodgers logo along with the inscription “Gen 9:12-16,” which refers to a passage from the book of Genesis.

This particular verse symbolizes God’s covenant with Noah, using the rainbow as a sign of that promise. After the game against the San Francisco Giants, screenshots from the broadcast circulated widely online, igniting discussions about Kershaw’s intentions.

The Dodgers organization has yet to respond to requests for comments regarding the incident. Previously, Kershaw had expressed his concerns about the team’s approach to Pride Night. In 2023, he publicly stated his discomfort with how religious beliefs were being treated by some groups involved in similar events. He remarked, “I don’t agree to tease other people’s religions. That’s something I definitely disagree with.” He clarified that his issues didn’t stem from the LGBTQ community, but rather from a specific group mocking religious practice.

The Dodgers celebrated their 12th Pride Night event this past Friday. Despite the controversies, Kershaw affirmed that he had no plans to boycott the event, emphasizing the distinction between honoring the LGBTQ community and participating in actions he felt were disrespectful to faith.

Shortly after facing backlash in 2023, the Dodgers announced a return to hosting events that celebrate Christian faith, maintaining a balance that resonates with a diverse audience.
