Donald Trump says he’ll pardon Jan. 6 rioters on day one: ‘Acting very quickly’

President-elect Donald Trump told NBC's Kristen Welker on Sunday that he wants to pardon the Jan. 6 riot, which occurred on the first day of his administration, and said members of Congress' Jan. 6 committee are in prison. Ta.

“We're going to look at everything. We're going to look at each individual case,” Trump told Welker. “But I intend to act immediately.”

President Trump said during his campaign that he intended to pardon the January 6 riot. Mr. Welker followed up and asked how quickly he planned to respond.

“Day one, I'm looking for day one. These guys have been there. How long? Three, four years,” Trump said. “They've been there for years, and they're in a filthy, disgusting place that shouldn't even be allowed to open.”

Welker also asked about President Biden's consideration of granting preemptive pardons to some of President Trump's opponents, including Liz Cheney and Sen.-elect Adam Schiff. White House Counsel Ed Siskel is coordinating talks about a possible pardon with several other senior Biden aides, including Chief of Staff Jeff Zients, according to Politico, a Democratic official familiar with the discussions. “Honestly, they should go to prison for what they did,” Trump told Welker.

Mr. Welker asked whether he would direct the FBI director to send members of the Jan. 6 committee, including former Sen. Liz Cheney, to prison.

“No, not at all. I think they need to look into that, but I'm not going to do that. I'm going to focus on training, baby, training,” Trump responded.

The New York Times Editorial Board warned that President Biden's pardon of his son Hunter Biden would be a cover for President Trump to pardon the January 6th Capitol riot.

“If Mr. Trump were to pardon the perpetrators of the January 6th attack on the Capitol, as he has suggested, it is easy to imagine a 'they did it too' defense being offered,” Hunter said.
