SPLC Faces Serious Charges Amid Controversial Funding
The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), often viewed as a far-left organization, allegedly receives financial support from notable individuals including George Clooney and George Soros, as well as corporations like Chick-fil-A, according to a report from a publication.
This revelation follows the U.S. Department of Justice’s (DOJ) announcement that the SPLC has been charged with fraud and money laundering in relation to its connections with “violent extremist groups.” This information was shared by another news outlet.
Accusations against the SPLC include claims that they have misused funds intended to combat hate groups, instead directing money to some of these very organizations. For instance, many of their supporters promised contributions to Unite the Right after a violent rally in Virginia in 2017 resulted in the death of a protester. Some donors were reportedly unaware that funds had been transferred to individuals involved in organizing that rally.
Notable backers include left-leaning billionaire George Soros, actor George Clooney, and former Apple CEO Tim Cook, alongside a small donation from Chick-fil-A.
Interestingly, it has been noted that Chick-fil-A ceased donations to groups on the far-left after facing backlash in 2019.
On Tuesday, FBI Director Kash Patel announced an 11-count indictment against the SPLC, which includes charges of wire fraud and conspiracy to conceal money laundering.
The indictment accuses the SPLC of running a vast fraud scheme to mislead donors and enrich themselves, which they allegedly used to support leaders of violent groups, facilitating various illegal activities.
In response, the SPLC denied the allegations, claiming that their strategy is to dismantle hate groups from within through intelligence-gathering from sources embedded within these organizations.
White House press secretary Caroline Levitt expressed strong criticism of the SPLC, stating that the facts should be widely shared and calling it a criminal organization as indicated by the grand jury indictment.
