Kamala Harris Faces Doubts About 2028 Presidential Run
Kamala Harris seems to be encountering some skepticism regarding a potential presidential bid for 2028. Interestingly, even her husband, Doug Emhoff, is not keen on the idea of her running for the White House again.
According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, Emhoff has quietly expressed a preference for Harris to abstain from entering the 2028 presidential race. Yet, those close to him believe he would ultimately back her if she chooses to pursue it.
It’s not just Emhoff who has reservations. Some of Harris’ supporters, particularly donors, have conveyed their concerns directly to her, suggesting that a campaign for the White House in 2028 would likely be “a long shot.”
Harris is coming off a difficult 2024 election, where she faced President Trump. In that race, she lost the popular vote, the Electoral College, and all the crucial swing states, despite raising an impressive $1.5 billion to support her campaign.
Despite this setback, she maintains a strong presence in hypothetical polls for the Democratic nomination, leading by a significant margin in most recent surveys. Harris asserts that she hasn’t made up her mind about running again, although it seems she’s preparing for the possibility of another campaign.
In the lead-up to the midterms, she has been active in Democratic fundraising activities, supporting candidates like Wisconsin’s David Crowley and Nevada’s Aaron Ford. Just last week, she participated in a call with over 2,000 volunteers from the Democratic National Committee, stressing the importance of their efforts in getting voters to the polls in various states.
During a recent NAACP event in Michigan, she mentioned, “I have not decided if I’m going to run again. I do sincerely believe ’28 won’t matter if we don’t get through ’26.” Some individuals who have long been allies of Harris express skepticism regarding her likelihood of running again.
Earlier this year, Harris and Emhoff made quite an investment in a luxurious $8 million mansion in Malibu. Additionally, Emhoff has taken a position at the Los Angeles law firm Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP as a partner.
As of now, neither Harris’ office nor Emhoff has responded to requests for comments on this matter.
