Driver suspected of DUI survives 600-foot fall from a cliff in Northern California

California officials reported on Monday that a suspected drunk driver somehow survived after his pickup truck fell nearly 600 feet off a northern California cliff last week.

The incident took place along State Route 263 in Siskiyou County, known for its picturesque but perilous landscape marked by steep cliffs and challenging descents.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the pickup truck seems to have gone off the road, tumbling down a mountainside before finally stopping at the bottom of the cliff.

“It’s remarkable that the driver managed to survive what could have easily turned out to be fatal,” the agency stated.

Authorities arrived at the scene and suspected the driver was under the influence. Consequently, he was arrested on charges related to drunk driving.

Photos released by the CHP depicted the pickup truck in such a state of destruction that it was almost unidentifiable, with debris scattered over the rugged terrain.

As of now, there haven’t been any details shared about the driver’s identity or the severity of his injuries following the crash.

Following this incident, the CHP emphasized the importance of not driving while impaired, highlighting that such actions can have severe consequences. “This accident is a sobering reminder that impaired driving not only jeopardizes your life but also the lives of others on the road,” they cautioned. “Choosing to drink and drive can lead to devastating and entirely avoidable outcomes.”
