FBI Arrests First Suspect on ‘Most Wanted Scammers’ List
Bill Esseri, an assistant U.S. attorney for the Central District of California, discussed the ongoing crackdown on fraud and the arrest of individuals believed to have siphoned off hundreds of millions of dollars during an appearance on “Saturday in America.”
In a related case, two men from California are accused of stealing $100,000 in tools, copper wire, and vehicles, and it’s been reported that they allegedly took selfies while committing the crime.
This theft reportedly took place on July 6 at a store in American Canyon, according to local police.
Arrests Made for Fraudulent Shopping
Authorities responded to a robbery alarm in the 1100 block of Green Island Road. Officers managed to identify two vehicles associated with the crime, sharing their findings with nearby law enforcement.
The following day, the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office detained the driver of one of the vehicles, identified as Daniel Lemas, aged 53 from Hayward.
During the investigation, police discovered a selfie Lemas allegedly took while carrying out the robbery.
Major FBI Operation Leads to Numerous Arrests
In a separate endeavor, the FBI announced the arrest of 305 individuals and the recovery of 24 missing children during Operation New Dawn in Chicago.
The selfie taken by Lemas allegedly shows him during the robbery, which resulted in significant theft. Following his arrest on robbery charges, he faces multiple felonies as documented by the Napa County Department of Corrections.
Later, on July 8, Hayward police apprehended Dennis Tillige, a 49-year-old also from Hayward, who was driving another vehicle linked to the incident.
After being taken into custody by the American Canyon Police Department, Tillige was charged with felony conspiracy.
Investigators executed a search warrant at a residence on Arden Road in Hayward, recovering some of the stolen items. Lemas has since been released on $25,000 bail, while Tillige remains behind bars, according to reports from California authorities.
