DSA Acknowledges Socialist Zohran Mamdani Offers Optimal Chance to 'Take Control of the State'

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) are positioning New York City candidate Zohran Mamdani (D) in a way that they believe could help them gain state power and shift the party further left.

During a panel discussion titled “United Struggle: Resistance to Restricted Body Autonomy,” organizer Daniel Goulden mentioned that the DSA is actively supporting the Mamdani campaign. The conversation touched upon their stance on the policies surrounding the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency.

Goulden expressed confidence about their alignment with Mamdani, noting, “With Zohran, we’re basically in the best possible position to take power.” He illustrated his point by showing how closely the DSA is connected to Mamdani, asserting that their influence has played a significant role in shaping his policy agenda.

He went on to say that the DSA not only collaborates with Mamdani but is also involved in crafting his platform. “His policy director is a friend of mine,” Goulden stated, adding that he has been working with Mamdani’s campaign manager for over a year.

In a separate remark, Granden pointed out that the DSA is dedicated to advocating for trans rights, aiming to leverage New York City’s resources to provide free gender-affirming care, asserting that insurance companies “will say it’s free” if they push back.

As Goulden emphasized that Mamdani’s campaign “wants to work with us,” it seems there’s a mutual understanding. Mamdani has long endorsed radical Marxist ideas. For instance, in 2021, he made it clear that one of his goals is to “seize the means of production.”

That same year, he also expressed the intention to buy private properties and turn them into communes. Furthermore, he is an advocate for government-run grocery stores, proposing a shift of city funds from corporate supermarkets to affordable municipal options.

A Breitbart editor noted that Mamdani’s views represent a form of communism, stating, “He preaches and demands control over the means of production.” This sparked criticism from both within and outside the Democratic Party. New York Governor Kathy Hochul has voiced her disagreement with many of Mamdani’s positions, although she acknowledged some common ground on issues like affordability.

Additionally, Rep. Adam Smith (D-WA) claimed, “Mamdani does not speak for our party.”
