Electric vehicle manufacturer recalls more than 27,000 cars due to potential issues.

Polestar has issued a recall for over 27,800 Polestar 2 electric vehicles in the US due to concerns that the backup camera may not function properly.

In a report to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Polestar noted that the recalled vehicles might display a message indicating that the “camera is temporarily unavailable,” leading to what they described as “visualization issues” with the rear camera.

The NHTSA identified that a malfunctioning rear camera could pose a greater risk of accidents.

The manufacturer produced the Polestar 2 from July 2020 until late November last year, so owners of models within this timeframe should be aware of the potential issue with the backup camera displays.

The report clarified that the problem stems from a synchronization error between the parking assist camera and the infotainment head unit, specifically an issue with the hardware that receives video signals in the unit.

According to the NHTSA, owners impacted by this recall can expect to receive notification letters starting June 19th.

To address the issue, Polestar has stated that a software update will be provided.

This update aims to maintain reliable connections between the camera and infotainment system, correcting errors and resetting video signals if synchronization problems occur.

The Polestar 2 debuted in the US market in 2020, yet current NHTSA reports suggest that the manufacturer is not producing additional models for the US at this time.

Polestar, headquartered in Sweden, offers a range of electric vehicles across 27 different global markets.
