An elementary school teacher in Long Island is under scrutiny after allegedly sexting someone he thought was a 13-year-old girl. Video footage has emerged of him confessing to having a significant collection of child pornography, which he then oddly attempted to attribute to his wife.
Mark Verity, 37, who teaches music at Wading River Elementary, was suspended on Wednesday night following a sting operation orchestrated by a group named “Predator Poachers Long Island,” aimed at catching potential offenders.
Mike Villani, a member of the group, expressed hope that the evidence they gathered, including recorded interviews, would lead to Verity being incarcerated.
Before he was confronted by the group outside the school, Verity was reportedly on his way to visit in-laws. A livestream of the encounter was shared with the newspaper.
During the confrontation, Verity quickly admitted to reaching out to the group’s 13-year-old “bait account,” where he allegedly requested explicit photos and disturbingly tried to instruct the girl on how to masturbate. He also seemed to acknowledge arranging to meet and suggested discussing sexual positions they could explore together, as per the video.
The group identified Verity after he sent a photo of himself to the girl’s account, and they employed AI technology to trace him before the meeting. The decoy was a 29-year-old group member using AI to appear younger.
That same day, he reportedly messaged the supposed girl during class, inquiring about what she was wearing under her “comfortable clothes.” When she responded with “Nothing,” he insisted she “prove it,” based on the video evidence.
The troubling revelations didn’t stop there. He admitted on camera to having viewed and kept bestiality pornography featuring ostriches and horses, and he acknowledged accessing a vast “mega” database online containing child pornography with images of children as young as eight. He claimed he preferred “the 13- to 16-year-old age group.”
In a disturbing twist, Verity attempted to blame his wife for his disturbing interests, suggesting that a lack of intimacy in their marriage pushed him to the darker sides of the internet to fulfill his urges. Nevertheless, he conceded that his troubling inclinations may have started over a decade ago, possibly even prior to becoming a teacher.
Later, he was seen on video asking for forgiveness on behalf of his family, and footage is expected to be released publicly soon.
Following an hour-long discussion, the Predator Poachers group decided to alert the police, leading to Verity being taken in for questioning, though no immediate arrests occurred.
Authorities are actively investigating, confirming Verity was indeed present at the site of the encounter on Wednesday.
Villani shared that he plans to meet with Suffolk County police to present the gathered evidence.
