Elon Musk’s X (formerly known as Twitter) reportedly reinstated blue checkmarks for prominent users overnight, with some users expressing dissatisfaction with the one-sided perk are doing.
variety report Elon Musk has reinstated the blue check mark for “influential members of the community,” sparking controversy once again on X/Twitter. The decision follows Musk’s original plan to remove traditional blue checks and require users to subscribe to X Premium (formerly Twitter Blue) to maintain their verified status.
Musk mentioned the change on March 27th, saying, “Going forward, all X accounts with more than 2,500 verified subscriber followers will get premium features for free, and accounts with more than 5,000 people will get Premium+ for free. It will be available for use,” he wrote.

The new policy, which appears to have gone into effect Wednesday night, gives accounts with more than 2,500 verified subscriber followers a free X Premium subscription, while accounts with more than 5,000 followers receive X Premium+. Granted. However, not all users are excited about the unexpected change.

John O’Nolan, founder of newsletter platform Ghost, commented that he was randomly re-verified 18 months after his original verified status was removed.

Mr. Musk’s decision to reinstate blue checks for influential users comes in line with his previous review of the platform’s verification policies, which he called “corrupt and nonsense” when he acquired the company in October 2022. This is a deviation from the stance.
