Elon Musk recently shared insights about his experiences in Donald Trump’s administration during a discussion in the White House, highlighting a humorous episode involving a late-night ice cream run.
On Wednesday, Musk addressed a small audience in the Roosevelt Room, talking about his unique role during the early months of Trump’s second term.
SpaceX’s CEO noted he had managed to save taxpayers over $160 billion by contributing to government efficiency during a particularly challenging time, working almost every day of the week.
Musk described the atmosphere of his 100 days in office, mentioning the “comically small office” and an amusing moment where he enjoyed ice cream from the White House kitchen and built a rapport with Trump.
Reflecting on his unexpected overnight stays in the Lincoln bedroom, Musk remarked, “I didn’t think I would sleep there.” He recalled Trump’s late-night call encouraging him to grab some ice cream.
“The President is a very good host,” Musk mentioned, noting that he indulged in an entire tub of caramel Häagen-Dazs.
He added with a laugh, “Don’t tell RFK you ate the entire tub,” referencing the Doge chief’s playful side.
When discussing his “comically small office,” Musk explained he was situated on the top floor, where visibility was limited to an HVAC unit outside the window. “I think it’s tough to see me from there. No good view,” he said.
On the topic of Doge, Musk reflected on its progress, indicating that while improvements were evident, there was still room for increased effectiveness.
“I think we’ve been effective in the grand scheme of things,” he asserted.
Musk elaborated on the complexities of the federal government, suggesting that reducing waste and fraud requires a systematic approach. “That takes three months of intense effort and requires building a team,” he concluded.
