Tesla CEO Elon Musk has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and the company’s CEO Sam Altman, accusing them of putting profit over humanity.

In a lawsuit filed Thursday in a San Francisco court, Musk’s lawyers say the billionaire was approached by Altman and OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman in 2015, As a result, they claimed that they had reached an agreement to establish a non-profit research institute to develop artificial intelligence. The lawsuit alleges that Musk, who withdrew from OpenAI in 2018, was the “driving force” behind the creation of OpenAI and provided much of the initial funding. Microsoft agreed to the partnership in 2020 and is now the company’s largest investor.
The lawsuit also claimed that OpenAI is currently developing artificial general intelligence (AGI), a theoretical form of AI that can perform tasks that exceed the level of human intelligence, for profit rather than for the benefit of humanity. .
Additionally, Musk’s lawyers said in the lawsuit that OpenAI’s focus on maximizing Microsoft’s profits violates that agreement.
“Under our new board of directors, we are not only developing AGI, but actually improving it, to maximize Microsoft’s profits rather than for the benefit of humanity,” the filing states. .

Microsoft’s deal with OpenAI has drawn criticism from rivals in the US, EU and UK.
