FBI Email Reveals Pursuit of Charges Against Trump

A recent internal email from the FBI indicates that the Biden administration’s Justice Department was intent on pursuing new criminal charges against Donald Trump concerning the January 6 Capitol riots.

In this email from 2023, which was disclosed by Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, the intent behind the ongoing investigations led by special advisor Jack Smith is highlighted as potentially biased against Trump.

Prosecutor JP Cooney communicated with DOJ colleagues on March 8, 2023, asking, “Can we do some work to nail down Trump’s role in this?” The email had the subject line “J6 Prisoner Choir/DJT” and included an article from Forbes about Trump collaborating on a song with individuals involved in the January 6 incidents.

Cooney holds a significant role as an assistant special advisor who has been involved in investigations conducted by Robert Mueller and Jack Smith regarding Trump.

“Agent Zero”

In the Forbes article, Cooney noted that Trump recorded a pledge of loyalty at Mar-a-Lago, mentioning figures such as Ed Henry and Kas Patel, who now serves as FBI director.

He pointed out that profits from this venture are channeled to an LLC managed by Henry, with specific funds aimed at supporting families of the jailed January 6 defendants. However, he noted discrepancies in the review process concerning families of defendants who had assaulted law enforcement.

Cooney mentioned that he had asked an associate named Ahmed, likely prosecutor Ahmed Baset, to save related information and planned to follow up with colleagues about clarifying Trump’s involvement.

His communications were shared with multiple agents and DOJ staff, including Walter Giardina, an FBI agent known for his anti-Trump stance. Giardina responded soon after, stating he was investigating the article’s claims involving Trump and the choir.

Giardina has had a prominent role in various FBI actions related to Trump and his associates, including the high-profile arrest of Trump adviser Dr. Peter Navarro in 2022.

Notably, Giardina was involved in the Crossfire Hurricane Operation, which investigated alleged collusion between Trump and Russia, as well as inquiries into Trump’s allies.

Grassley claims that Giardina was the first to receive the Steele documents, asserting they were falsely corroborated against Trump. Furthermore, he mentioned that Giardina wiped clean a laptop assigned to him while working for special advisor Mueller, raising concerns about potential destruction of official records.

Whistleblower Allegations

A whistleblower informed Grassley that Giardina expressed a desire to investigate Trump, even if it meant leaning on questionable assumptions, showcasing a clear bias.

Grassley highlighted this email chain as evidence that federal law enforcement had been misused to target Trump. Instead of focusing on the obligations of DOJ and FBI agencies, he argued that biased investigators were seeking information to build another unfounded case against him.

Known for advocating for whistleblower protection, Grassley has collaborated with FBI Director Kash Patel to uncover hidden communications within the FBI, identifying those responsible for the anti-Trump efforts over recent years.

Additionally, Patel shared an FBI intelligence report this week alleging that China was behind efforts to create fraudulent driver’s licenses aimed at facilitating vote manipulation during the 2020 election.

The whistleblower noted that this initiative was put on hold after an FBI memo was issued, despite Customs and Border Protection seizing a significant number of fake licenses in the period leading up to the election.

Grassley remarked on the unprecedented transparency resulting from his oversight, indicating that his investigations are ongoing and more revelations are anticipated.

The attempts to charge Trump involved accusations related to his actions on January 6, including conspiracy, obstruction, and violations of the Rebellion Act. Ultimately, however, these efforts were unsuccessful.

Trump not only won the 2024 election decisively but also prompted the withdrawal of outstanding charges against him, while pursuing legal actions against those involved in the investigations.
