Emory University on Thursday accused anti-Israel “activists” who are “not members of our community” of disrupting its campus Thursday as large crowds swarmed the Quad and police responded.
“Early Thursday morning, dozens of protesters entered Emory University’s campus and set up tents on the Quad,” Emory University said in a statement to Fox News. “These people are not members of our community. They are activists seeking to disrupt our university while students finish classes and prepare for finals. Emory We do not tolerate vandalism or other criminal activity in the area. The Emory Police Department asked the group to leave and requested assistance from the Atlanta Police Department and the Georgia State Patrol.”
Fox News reporters on the ground estimated that more than 100 protesters had gathered at Emory University’s Quad. Protesters were seen holding placards that read, “Emory: Cut off all tires with Israel. End Gilly!”
Food, water and other supplies have been set up at the protest site. Several demonstrators led pro-Palestinian chants, which the crowd repeated.
Authorities have not released the number of people detained or arrested during Thursday’s campus protests, but videos show authorities using zip ties to restrain people and firing tear gas, Tasers, and rubber bullets.
