Trump Vows to Find leaker of Classified Information
President Donald Trump has accused someone of leaking sensitive details about a pilot who was shot down in Iran, pledging to pursue the individual responsible.
On Monday, the White House revealed that two pilots from an F-15E Strike Eagle were successfully rescued after their aircraft crashed in Iran over the weekend, which the president hailed as a significant triumph for the U.S. and a major embarrassment for Iran.
He stated, “We’re going to reach out to the media outlet that released this information and demand, ‘National security, hand it over or face jail time.’ We’re hopeful we can identify the leaker.”
During his remarks, Trump noted that the pilot’s rescue was overshadowed by the leak, which he believes made the operation more difficult. He added, “We didn’t even discuss the first incident for an hour, and then this disclosure happened.”
He expressed frustration over the implications of the leak: “This revelation let Iran know that we had pilots on their territory who were fighting for their lives.”
In relation to the incident, which was first reported last Friday, Trump insisted on the urgency of locating the leaker, claiming, “We have a good idea of who this may be, and so do you.”
The reports about the pilots’ rescue coincided with Easter Sunday, with some observers noting the timing’s alignment with the Christian holiday.
Meanwhile, various media outlets, including The New York Times, Axios, and Fox News, were among the first to cover the leak.
