Eric Adams apologizes after confusing India with Pakistan during Indian Independence celebration in NYC

Mayor Eric Adams confused India with Pakistan while speaking at India’s Independence Day event on Saturday, and Mayor Hizzoner quickly apologized for the gaffe, echoing President Biden’s.

Adams reportedly caused the confusion at the Indian Independence Day parade in Queens, where he incorrectly referred to Pakistan multiple times.

According to the media, at the beginning of his speech, the president also mentioned “Pakistani police officers” in a reference to law enforcement agencies present at the venue.

On Sunday night, a City Hall spokesman said when asked about the mix-up, Adams proactively returned to the stage and apologised for the mistake.

“And he made it clear he was proud to be there to celebrate India’s independence,” the spokesman said.

Adams on Saturday posted photos and videos of himself celebrating with members of the Indian community.

“Today I am so happy to join the Queens Indian community in their annual parade celebrating Independence!” he tweeted.

“New Yorkers are an essential part of our city, and we’re proud to work alongside them every day.”
