Adams Might Support Cuomo

Mayor Eric Adams is reportedly reconsidering his stance on Andrew Cuomo, his previous political rival, according to sources. Recently, Adams, who abandoned a potentially unsuccessful reelection campaign on Sunday, has indicated a growing willingness to back Cuomo.

Insiders have suggested that Adams has expressed some support for the former governor, and he seems to be leaning away from the socialist candidate, Zoran Mamdani, whom he views as a significant threat to New York City.

In a conversation with columnist Michael Goodwin, Adams acknowledged that both Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa, the GOP nominee, have been “touching” in their appeal for support. He seems to be positioning himself more with traditional Democrats as he navigates this political landscape.

Adams was quoted saying, “New York can’t be an experiment,” underscoring his anxiety about Mamdani’s influence.

Cuomo, in an interview with NY1 on Monday evening, expressed a willingness to collaborate with Adams, noting how beneficial Adams’s support would be. He added, “On a personal level, I hope he is at peace with his decision.”

There’s been a noticeable shift in Adams’s perspective towards Cuomo over recent weeks, with reports indicating that he is softening his previously harsh stance against the former governor. Nonetheless, he maintains some reservations, still wary of Cuomo’s unpredictable past.

Despite his complicated feelings, Adams has shared these thoughts with close allies, including his campaign manager Frank Caron, who is concerned about Mamdani’s growing prominence.

One source close to the situation remarked, “It’s like defeating a persistent opponent, any move you can make helps.”

Randy Mastro, closely associated with Adams, even indicated he would consider voting for Cuomo in the upcoming election, showing a significant shift in allegiance.

However, Adams’s journey to this point has been tumultuous. His initial remarks during the announcement of his withdrawal were quite critical, labeling politicians who frequently change their stance as “unreliable.”

Meanwhile, unexpected developments have occurred behind the scenes, including last-minute changes that have left some Cuomo insiders stunned, citing a lack of awareness about the shifts in support.
