New York City Mayor Eric Adams praised his administration's handling of the big apple immigration crisis days after an all-male shelter with a capacity of 2,200 in the Bronx.
In an interview with WNYM/Fox 5 NY, Adams said that his administration has done a “great job” with the 230,000 migrants who have arrived in the city in search of shelters and other services since the crisis began in 2022.
He said Monday's announcement that the Roosevelt Hotel in Manhattan will be closed was a significant milestone for the city and that 53 other shelters have been closed over the past year. Adams said his administration used it to respond to immigrants, even though the community did not accept shelter in the neighborhood.

“Show me who grew up[s] I say their hands[s]”I'll bring it here,” said Democrat Adams. “We have to use smart policies. How can we take people to places, get services and drive them out?”
“If you think about it, 70% of the 230,000 we had are at the next step. The great work on this administration deals with the biggest humanitarian crisis we have had in the history of this city.”
The approximately 1,000-room Roosevelt Hotel has handled more than 173,000 immigrants since it opened in May 2023, and has been the focus of the city's immigration crisis over the past two years.
Adams said the hotel needs to convert to shelters as about 4,000 migrants arrived in the city a week with a height of crisis. a new york post Sources told the outlet that the hotel-turned-shelter closure is expected to occur by June.
While Adams promoted the closure of dozens of shelters, his administration opened a massive 2,200-men immigration shelter in the Bronx on Saturday.

The facility's opening at 825 E. 141st St. sparked a furious scene at last month's Bronx Community Board Conference.
“I have a young woman who comes to study. I've never been afraid of the South Bronx, I'm scared right now,” she said, running an art school across from the building. “I'm scared to my students. I have to move… you've made a terrible mistake.”
Some immigrants will be transferred from a vast immigration tent shelter on Randall's Island to the Bronx Site. This is designated to close as Adams' office said 45,000 immigrants were still in taxpayer-funded accommodations.
In his interview, Adams said immigration is a federal issue and that his administration would not take part in deportation unless it involves criminal acts. The Trump administration vowed to carry out the biggest deportation effort in US history, indicating that it would first target violent criminals. Adams met Border “Emperor” Tom Homan about how to carry out these efforts.
“We are not working on urban law and deportation based on deportation strategies for citizen enforcement,” Adams said.

“I am permitted to cooperate with criminal execution under city law. That's what I've been calling for for two years, and I'm pleased that there's a government that has heard me and that they're willing to cooperate.”
Adams said his administration would make sure it complies with both federal and city laws while promoting his qualifications for re-elect later this year, and said he would not resign despite some Democrats asking him to do so in a federal corruption investigation.
“We look forward to showing how well we've done in town,” Adams said.
