Eric Roberts offers ‘public apology’ to sister Julia Roberts

Eric Roberts' first appearance on “Dancing with the Stars” Tuesday night offered a rare glimpse into the world of one of the industry's most acclaimed actors.

The “Runaway Train” star's latest TV appearance seemed like another step for Roberts to right past wrongs, many of which are detailed in his new memoir, “Runaway Train: Or, The Story of My Life So Far.”

In his book, Roberts “publicly apologized” to his Oscar-winner sister, Julia Roberts, for comments he once made about his famous family.

The “Righteous Gemstones” star made headlines in 2018 for taking on the responsibilities of her sister's award-winning career, in addition to daughter Emma Roberts' Hollywood status.

“Without me, celebrities and actresses like Julia Roberts and Emma Roberts wouldn't exist, and I'm very proud of that,” he told Vanity Fair.

In 1981, Roberts was involved in a car accident that left him in a coma for three days. The accident, along with his years of drug abuse as a cocaine addict, took a toll on his mind and body, and also affected his personal relationships.

“I wouldn't be surprised if they suffered from PTSD from the time when it was unsafe for them to be with me,” he acknowledges in the book about the bond between his sisters. “Lisa and Julia needed love and protection, but instead they felt fear and anxiety.”

“Of course, the biggest consequence of my drug use was losing Emma.”
