Eric Trump warned that if the Supreme Court ignores the president’s immunity, prosecutors could try to indict President Biden over last summer’s White House cocaine scandal.
President Trump’s heir also warned that his father’s failure to obtain absolute immunity could open the floodgates to a wave of prosecutions against other presidents.
“They’re probably going to go after Joe Biden for having cocaine in the White House. They’re going to go after Biden for raiding the other guy’s house,” Eric Trump, 40, said on Fox News. Predicted on Sunday Morning Futures.
“They’re probably going to go after him…literally in the two weeks leading up to the 2022 primaries, literally depleting the petrostate, the reserves that he uses to keep gas prices down,” he fumed.
Last July, Secret Service agents discovered small bags in an anteroom near the Situation Room and on the lower floor of the Oval Office, which they later determined contained one gram of cocaine.
Eleven days later, the Secret Service closed the investigation without naming a suspect, claiming that surveillance footage did not reveal the identity of the perpetrator.
Last Thursday, the Supreme Court ruled that former President Donald Trump, 77, will not be allowed to proceed with his four-count indictment over the 2020 election because presidents enjoy absolute immunity for official actions. He heard a landmark lawsuit that argued that the
The conservative-led high court justices appear to be highly skeptical of the president’s claim of absolute immunity, and also to be skeptical that the president has no immunity.
President Trump successfully delayed his 2020 election overturn trial, which was scheduled to begin on March 4, by asserting presidential immunity.
Eric Trump echoed the former president’s defense team, warning that overzealous prosecutors could struggle without immunity to protect the former commander-in-chief.
“The only people who benefit are the big law firms in Washington, D.C., because they’re going to go after every single president. They start with Obama, Fast and Furious, right, where he gives cartel members 2,000 “We’ll give you the weapons you need,” Eric Trump mused.
“Where do they want to stop? Are they going to go after George Bush who lied about weapons of mass destruction?” he later added.
Donald Trump is the first sitting or incumbent U.S. president to face criminal charges, facing 88 charges in four separate indictments. He denies wrongdoing and has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Eric Trump added: “The floodgates will open and I guarantee Joe Biden will not step out of the White House door before we begin a legal and ruthless pursuit.”
The younger Trump was vague about who he would target Biden, 81, but his father had previously vowed to appoint a special counsel to investigate the first family.
Donald Trump made similar promises about Hillary Clinton, but ultimately refused to follow up on them during his administration.
Biden, meanwhile, has strictly refrained from any actions or comments that could be seen as interfering with his predecessor’s legal matters.
The Supreme Court is expected to rule on the immunity issue by July. The decision could mean sending the matter back to lower courts to clarify certain aspects of the case, such as the distinction between private and public actions.
