The Pittsburgh Penguins find themselves in a challenging spot as the playoffs unfold. Having lost both of their initial games, including a shutout to the Philadelphia Flyers, their situation is far from what they may have anticipated.
After a disappointing Game 2 on Monday, the Penguins now face the challenge of competing in the intense atmosphere of Xfinity Mobile Arena for Game 3 on Wednesday. Perhaps this shift in scenery is just what they need.
Erik Karlsson, a seasoned defenseman, seems to believe so. “Everyone in the locker room is looking forward to getting away from Pittsburgh for a bit,” he said, smiling. “Going to Philadelphia, the hostile environment might help us concentrate on just playing and not getting distracted by other things.”
It’s a common approach among veterans, though it’s easier to say than to implement, especially when you’re away from the comfort of home.
Looking back, the Penguins didn’t perform well in those first two games. They were largely outplayed in the opener and faltered offensively in the second match.
Shifting locations could be beneficial for the Penguins, and they have shown they can thrive on the road, finishing slightly better in away games this season compared to their performance at the PPG Paint Center.
Similarly, the Flyers have their share of success as well. It seems like this series is turning into a tough battle for both teams!
Still, the pressure is squarely on the Penguins to turn things around.
I was honestly surprised to see how the Flyers have the advantage, particularly in goal. The Penguins need to jumpstart their offense quickly if they hope to bring the series back to Pittsburgh.
Despite being one of the league’s top-scoring teams this season, they’ve only managed two goals in two games so far.
Maybe that wild Philadelphia energy will ignite some much-needed offensive spark for them.
