While mainstream media has suggested that President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris’ Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is deporting more illegal immigrants than former President Donald Trump, data from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) suggests otherwise.
POLITICOFor example, at first glance credit Biden upheld Title 42, the public health order first used by President Trump as border control during the coronavirus pandemic in China. Biden ended Title 42 in May 2023.
However POLITICO The report notes that Title 42 expulsions at the U.S.-Mexico border are different from the deportation of illegal immigrants from U.S. soil, but then conflates the two, claiming that Biden and Harris have “expelled millions more immigrants than Trump ever did.”

Similar suggestions made According to Reuters, the reporters combined Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) deportations at the southern border with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents deporting illegal immigrants living in the US interior, and argued that “Biden is now deporting more people than Trump.”
In fact, under Biden and Harris, ICE deportations of undocumented immigrants in cities and towns across the U.S. have plummeted. While President Trump deported nearly one million undocumented immigrants from the U.S., Biden and Harris have cut those deportations by more than half, according to data collected by the National Center for Immigration Enforcement (NICE).
We crunched the numbers and this is true.
Under President Trump’s administration, ICE was deporting illegal immigrants from American communities at eight times the rate it was under Border Commissioner/ICE Abolitionist Kamala Harris.

“The media is working overtime to cover up Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ record of refusing to deport the illegal immigrants who enter the country on their watch and continue to ravage American communities,” NICE President RJ Howman told Breitbart News.
“The Biden-Harris Administration’s obvious manipulation of deportation data is easily exposed,” Howman continued. “No amount of media flattery can obscure what Biden and Harris have done to the safety and security of our nation.”
John Fehr, a former ICE officer now with the Center for Immigration Studies, said: write The media confuses the return of migrants at the border with the deportation of illegal immigrants from within the United States. [former President Barack] President Obama also “pulled back” to claim he had deported millions of illegal immigrants.
Fehr found that not only have Biden and Harris deported hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants less than Trump, but their administrations have also allowed far more illegal immigrants to remain in the U.S. who have committed crimes.
Comparing the data, We found that under the Biden administration, arrests of aliens committing crimes have fallen by 57 percent and deportations of aliens committing crimes have fallen by 67 percent. This is not a subtle change in policy, but the result of a blatant effort by the Biden Administration to allow foreigners who have committed crimes to remain in the U.S. And this data is not hard to find, so it should be familiar to anyone writing about immigration. [Emphasis added]
The data also shows a 44% drop in detention requests for criminal aliens by the Biden administration, meaning the administration is actively choosing not to place thousands of criminal aliens in ICE custody. This is despite the fact that they have been arrested for criminal infractions by local law enforcement and could easily be arrested by ICE agents. [Emphasis added]
The Biden-Harris administration has deported just 4.4% of the more than 9.6 million illegal immigrants encountered at the border.

In addition to reducing deportations of illegal immigrants from the US, Biden and Harris have significantly expanded ICE’s “non-detainer list.” Immigrants on the non-detainer list are known to ICE but are allowed to live anywhere in the US while they await their deportation hearings.
ICE monitors only a small percentage of people not in custody.
As of June, there were about 7.4 million immigrants on ICE’s pending detention list. By the end of 2024, the number of immigrants on the list is estimated to exceed 8 million.
This represents a significant increase in the number of immigrants not in custody compared to when Trump was in office: when he left office in early 2021, for example, there were approximately 3.2 million immigrants in custody.
“Americans have a clear choice in November: an aggressive enforcer of immigration laws or a left-wing zealot who has served as both an ‘open borders czar’ and ‘ICE abolition director,'” Howman said.
